This barrio really does have it all, wide-open spaces, great restaurants and no doubt, some of the best real estate in the city.  We like Recoleta. San Telmo – the historic centre of Buenos Aires superseded by Recoleta during the early 1800s during a Yellow Fever epidemic.  San Telmo is a bohemian enclave of antique row houses, wonderful weekend markets, antique shops and a vibrant nightlife. Popular for low-cost accommodation, this barrio is a big favourite and San Telmo is a worthy challenger to Palermo and Recoleta dominance, especially for those who seek good value accommodation.

Puerto Madero – the newest barrio of Buenos Aires is a successful regeneration of the old port and its docks or diques.  The most expensive area of Buenos Aires, Puerto Madero offers contemporary waterside living in elegant upscale apartment towers. A few upscale shops (not enough) and some very good restaurants (many), make this a favourite of those with money to burn.  Puerto Madero is still a work in progress, but much improved during the last 18-months – Puerto Madero has come alive and is fast developing a personality.
